The Comic Book Project 2010

(View Gallery)

The Comic Book Project is an arts-based literacy and learning initiative of the Center for Educational Pathways. It is made available to the HDWC After-School Program participants through our partnership with The After-School Corporation and Teachers College's Harlem Ivy Program. The goal of the Comic Book Project is to help children create a different conduit to literacy by writing, designing, and publishing original comic books. Students are given a theme (this year's theme was "Save the World…") around which they create an original story line and characters. Ideas are drawn from their experiences and interests, thereby engaging them in the learning process.

Once the comic is completed it is included in a citywide publication that is created each year by the Comic Book Project initiative. Students from all over New York City are able to view the submissions from all the participating sites.
