Cyndee Peters

Cyndee Peters

Cyndee Peters is a wonderful singer and artist...ask almost any Swede. Her legendary career reflects a remarkable and very personal journey from proud origins in North Carolina, to New York City where as a teenager her talents were nurtured, and ultimately led to her worldwide career. And although it was never her intention to become an artist, having received a degree in sociology, she has gone on to perform for both the Royal Family of Sweden, and for Pope John Paul II, heads of state as well as countless others in concert halls, theaters, churches and arenas. Among her many fans she proud to have two Nobel Prize recipients Toni Morrison and Nelson Mandela.

In Sweden, her name is a household word, frequently used in crossword puzzles. Her concerts are usually full to overflowing and she is a regular guest on both television and radio. She is literally known and loved by millions and has to date taught more than 70,000 Swedes, Danes, Finns, Norwegians, Italians, Faroe-Islanders, Dutchmen, Australians and Germans to sing gospel and spirituals.

Her legendary choir project "Black People’s Music" which began in 1972 has come to have its own special place in Swedish musical history. What sets her music apart is a powerful spirituality, a sense of purpose that listeners hear immediately. Her lovely voice conveys both power and tenderness, wisdom and love.

In February '99 she received the Key to the City from her hometown of Granite Falls, North Carolina and in March that same year was given the honor to once again perform for former President Nelson Mandela at a State banquet held by the King and Queen of Sweden.

Her performance at the Cognac Blues and Jazz Festival had thousands of Frenchmen on their feet asking for more, even after three encores. On January 5th, 2004 Ms. Peters became an honorary member of Sweden’s prestigious Vasa Order of America (Stockholm).

THEY CALL ME LUCY

THEY CALL ME LUCY is a collaboration that weaves the textures of the lyrical folk melodies of Jina Paik and the roadsy blues energy of MJ Watkins evoking the feeling of a Carolina summer night with a cold glass of beer. Linda Diamond rounds out the vocals with willowy harmonies, while Shane Kulman adds a touch of drums.

Interpretating the roots of folk, blues, pop, it has allowed the group to showcase the virtues of these combined disciplines, as well as personal styles. They create vignettes that bring the listener into their world,  filled with wry humor, poetic sadness and unsinkable spirit.

THEY CALL ME LUCY is dedicated to supporting original music, women in music and promoting artistic creativity through the arts. They have dedicated much of the last 3 years of music playing to fundraising efforts in NY York City.

Their next event will be Saturday, November 5th - A Musical Intervention.

Proceeds will go to A Day of Joy - Attending or donating to this event goes directly to support parents and caregivers of children with special needs children.

DANIELLE QUINN

Music Influences:

Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin.... I love the power house voices.

BIO:

I’ve lived in New Jersey my whole life. Last year I got my associates degree in liberal arts and graduated with honors. I am very proud of it. I’ve been dancing and singing since I was able to talk. My biggest dream as a child was to be just like Ariel from the Little Mermaid. I always wanted to be a singer when I was a child but never thought I was good enough, so I switched my goals to becoming an actress. When I was in 8th grade, we were doing the musical Guys n Dolls and I wanted to audition for the lead role but I didn’t think my singing voice was good enough so I auditioned for one of the hot box girls and got the part. I’ve been in dance classes since I was very young so I knew I could do it. Ironically, my senior yr in high school we were doing the musical guys n dolls again. I forced myself to audition for Adelaide, the lead and I got the part. It was the first time in my life I realized I might actually be good at singing. From then on I’ve been performing and singing karaoke in local bars.

Music is my life. I have a younger brother Jonathan who is 16. I still live with both my parents Sarah and Ed. I come from a very big family and I’ve got cousins all over the country. My full time job is a bartender at TGI Fridays and I love it. I’m such a people person I love meeting people and hearing about their lives. I’ve been with Fridays now for almost 4 years. I pride myself on being different. Growing up I was always embarrassed of being a redhead and being so fair. Kids used to tease me a lot. But now I’ve learned to embrace who I am and am proud that I’ve never dyed my hair and that I don’t go fake tanning. If ever I become famous I would be the best role model for young girls that I can be.
